Team Development

Team Development

The Club tries to align the club’s community values with governing bodies, such as SACA and Cricket Australia, guidance on player enjoyment, participation and development.

Team development guidelines are based around:

  • The primary objective of our team development guideline is to ensure that teams are selected, by the club, to ensure that each player enjoys playing cricket and an environment of participation and development is provided;

  • Teams in each age group are selected based on past teams, friends, development and age;

  • All players in each age group will get the opportunity to have a bat and bowl at each game;

  • The cut-off age for all competitions is 1 September (U10s, U12s, U14s and U15s);

  • Team lists will be capped unless the club considers special circumstances apply;

  • Extra players who miss out on a team due to the above issues may be able to train with a team and be available on a roster system to fill in if or when needed due to illness, injury or inability to play. However, the club will strenuously try to get every registered player into a team by the beginning of the season.

Coaching, Training and Umpiring

Generally, each team will be organised by a volunteer team coach with the assistance of a volunteer team manager. The club encourages and supports all team coaches to complete the Level 0 and 1 coaching courses.

In all ages, game day coaches and team managers are generally parents.

Training will generally be taken by the coach with the assistance of coaching coordinators and from time to time specialist coaches.

Umpiring - For the younger age groups, the club ensures that each game is umpired either by the coach or a parent with an understanding of the rules of the game. Under 15s have an independently appointed umpire/s.

Parent Involvement

Please remember we are a club run by volunteers and we appreciate the generosity of our players’ parents and families in giving up their time.

During training and on game day, parents may be asked to help set up the field, score, umpire, and assist in drills.
